Interview with Norwegian TV celeb Saunet Sparell

Here is an interview with Nordic TV celeb Saunet 'Imani' Sparell who is a regular player on the 10KingsPoker website.

- Have you checked out of 'Hotel Cæsar', Saunet?
Yes, I left ‘Hotel Cæsar’ (The longest running TV series ever in Scandinavia, and close to 2000 episodes) May this year. Basically I was contracted for one year but my ‘Nadia’ role became popular and it was well received by the Norwegian TV-public. Since I really enjoyed working at ‘Hotel Cæsar’ – my stay was extended. After 2 and a half years both "Nadia" and I were exhausted and the writers and I agreed that she needed a proper break :-)

- Do you see yourself back on the screens in future as ‘Nadia’?
Hmm…IF she would one day returns, she will come back as a very dangerous and revengeful lady. Hihi.

- What’s new in Saunet’s life since leaving The Hotel?
I have focused on another passion of mine which is writing. Currently I´m working on two different screen plays for Scandinavian TV. I am also involved in creating and developing new concepts for entertainment in TV. Acting wise I took part in Paolo Cuelho´s "The Experimental Witch". We ended up on the shortlist and were among the 3 finalists from over 6000 contestants! Me playing an Irish woman might have been the downfall
since I wasn´t exactly "type cast", hahaha!

- You have got a new hobby. How is your poker going?

Good thanks. I´ve always liked to play cards and started playing poker regularly
about 2 years ago. Online and LIVE poker with friends, still learning though –I’m like a rookie poker girl. However, I think I’m probably more suited for LIVE poker than online.

- What makes poker so fascinating?
What I like about poker is the game underneath the game. The psychology and dicipline
- not to give anything way, read body language and change strategy etc. At first I didn´t think I could become good at it since anything that has to do with numbers normally isn´t my thing. After watching a lot of poker, like the EPT and WSOP on TV, I started watching poker from a whole different perspective. THAT really got me wanting to learn more. It´s the thrill and the excitement when you know you have good read on your competitors. And the game really triggers the competitive side of me!

- Is it possible to compare acting and poker?
Yes, I think so. Every player will try to not show his or her strategy or hand. As an actor you are trained both to portray and or hide emotions. This is definitely a useful tool in poker – and I know this could be used to my advantage in LIVE poker. It’s all a mix, but you need to understand the game, you need to be good at reading other players and you can’t allow yourself to give anything away to your opponent.

- The Liverpool Winter Festival coming up in Feb 2009. Have you ever been to Liverpool?
I have been to England, mostly London though. I have never been to Liverpool but I would love to go there. I don’t know much about the city, apart from 2 high profiled football teams and the hometown of The Beatles... I think the local accent s super cool but quite hard to understand!

- You have ambitions to play the festival?
Absolutely! Poker, casino and a few good parties. Sign me up, I'll be there!

- Your poker alias is ’Imani’ and you did very well in Monday’s Liverpool satellites. 2nd place in your Rebuy tournament debut!
Thank you very much! Honestly I was very surprised since I was basically card dead the first half hour. Then I made two big mistakes and this being my first time, I thought I was done and dusted. Got back on track, got some confident and made some good calls. And Yippi – I made the final table! I actually missed out on the ‘add-on’ as I didn’t know what it was all about haha! I have no regrets though as I had a lot of fun and I am happy to have done fairly well on my debut. I will try again both Sunday and Monday – because I really want to be in the Liverpool Winter Festival online final on the 5th January.

- 10KingsPoker to run €1 MILLION GUARANTEED tournament this Sunday evening. What would you do with a 1st prize of €250,000?
That is ALOT of money! Crazy amounts... I will definitely take a shot at it, who wouldn´t? It’s a crazy amount of money, especially as you know there will only be a couple of hundred players in the final. Imagine sitting playing online poker in your own flat, and a few hours later you have picked up a winning checking which will make you financially secure for years ahead. Like I said, it’s crazy!

What I would do if I win the 1st prize of €250,000?? Hmm… I would send my family on a long vacation and then I´d rent a place in Egypt for the rest of winter to finish writing in the sun.
Anyway, I have to stop dreaming. I'm hoping to qualify for the €1 MILLION tournament, and there's a few €5 rebuy satellites tonight. Let's give it a go!
